Parking

Parking restrictions in the eastern part of Abbotts Barton came into effect in August 2013. Another TRO was implemented in spring 2015 for the Western side.

While not all of the residents were happy with having to pay for permits, there are definitely no more parking problems on the affected roads and the short restriction times from 11am to 2pm on Monday to Friday make sure that locals don't have to pay too much extra for visitors - while commuters (who used to block most areas with their cars) are kept at bay. At the same time it is still possible for people who are not local to park here for a shorter time and go for a stroll or even for a walk into town, which is positive.

=====================

History for the restrictions introduced on the Eastern side:

In the 18 March 2013 meeting of the Winchester City Council CABINET (TRAFFIC AND PARKING) COMMITTEE it was decided to introduce a traffic regulation order (TRO) for most of the Eastern part of Abbotts Barton (east of Worthy Road) to help residents with the increasing levels of commuter parking.

The TRO was changed from originally introducing restrictions from "8am to 6pm" to "11am to 2pm". This change was based on a petition signed by a majority of the affected residents. Meeting minutes are available on the 18 March 2013 meeting web page.
