March Update

Hi everyone

Welcome to the March newsletter for the Abbotts Barton Community Group.  A particular welcome to those of you who have signed up recently.  I sent out a special email the other week about the thefts from unlocked cars.  The police neighbourhood alerts reported that they had caught someone, however people on the Facebook Abbotts Barton Community Forum are still reporting thefts L.  (If you live in or near Abbotts Barton you are very welcome to search for us on Facebook and ask to join.)  I’ve attached a poster about the thefts, which we have managed to put up on a few lamp-posts, in case you wanted to put it up in a window or on a lamp-post near you.

Jane and I met Lib Dem councillors Dominic Hiscock and Jim Maynard last night at the councillors’ surgery.  Jim had sent an email to the city council in response to our request that the ruts in Dyson Drive be looked at, he is going to chase them up again.  Last month we also suggested a change to a path in the new housing on Hillier way so that it followed the route that people use to cut across the grass.  The councillors had not passed on this request but are going to do so now.  The next councillors’ surgeries are Wed 6 April 11-12 at Simonds Court and Thurs 7 April 7.30pm at Hyde Parish Hall.

There is a consultation about play facilities and paths in the meadow below Abbotts Walk.  It is 4-6pm on 21 March at the meadow, access via Northanger Drive and then Cassandra Road.

The pond dipping and community orchard plantings were well attended and lots of fun. The Hampshire Wildlife Trust are running a bug hunt event at the Abbotts Walk meadow on 20 March from 10am, donations requested.

A reminder to put 12 June, 3 July and 4 September 1-3pm in your diary for our summer picnics in the park.  More details to follow.

Finally, we have some free tickets for league matches at Winchester City Football club.  Do send me an email if you’d like one.

Have a good month!

Lynne (chair) and Jane (treasurer)
