I hope you are keeping well in this strange new world we seem to be living in. This morning I followed some advice on keeping healthy mentally and went for a walk round our estate. Reflecting on what I could see around me, and the contents of the inbox I had left behind, it struck me that we are lucky enough to live in not just a beautiful place but also one with a strong sense of community. Here’s a few of the things currently in my community group inbox on how we can support one another:
- One resident has set up an Abbotts Barton group on Nextdoor.co.uk There’s already lots of offers of help on there. Sign up at: https://nextdoor.co.uk/?fbclid=IwAR2MPI_ZZRG-n--wYGTjYYPi6LIYnbd4k73TBvrGhzMnRnZG8uTWOtUpKAI
- For those of you on Facebook there’s also the Abbotts Barton Community Forum. Search for it on Facebook and ask to join and I’ll add you in. There are offers of help with dog-walking, prescription fetching, grocery delivering etc. on there
- You may have seen the attached postcard being circulated online. You can put it through a neighbour’s door to offer help if they are self-isolating. At the suggestion of one of the people on the Nextdoor group, I’ve added a card with an offer to have a virtual cuppa with a neighbour via Skype, FaceTime etc. It’s a Word document so feel free to customise and make it much prettier than I’ve done! Don’t forget to wash your hands before posting anything through anyone’s door of course.
Guidelines about the virus are here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
If you’re interested in the mental health advice I was reading it’s here https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51873799 although it doesn’t mention that if you decide to work in the garden you might want to think about sun-cream. I have genuinely managed to get sunburnt in March today!
Best wishes
Lynne
Chair of Abbotts Barton Community Group
