History

Abbotts Barton Community Group was founded by a small group of local residents in February 2013 after a set-off-meeting with the Winchester Council Community Planning Manager. Apart from making active use of the local notice board, we quickly set up this website and took to Facebook and Twitter to make the group better known within the community and also to inform as best as possible about projects going on in Winchester and Hampshire that affect residents.

The Notice Board!
To get local people involved and to meet each other, we organised the annual Big Lunch events and monthly community picnics during the warmer months of the year.

So far we were only an informal group that mostly existed virtually via the website and social media outlets. However, in May 2014 we had a meeting with some interested residents who elected a chair, treasurer and secretary so that we could go formal and set up a constitution. During 2014 we actively encouraged residents to become members and at the date of writing (29 January 2015), we have 70 people on our membership list. Our Facebook page attracted 104 likers, the forum has 77 members and on Twitter we have 142 followers (of course there is some overlap).

If you should be interested to become a member please see the Membership page!
